Camp #653 Marion's Men

Columbia, MS.

There are photos of the Camp's Events in this slideshow.

The name "Marion's Men" was selected (1) to honor the Confederate company of that name (Co. F, 7th MS Infantry), (2) to honor Revolutionary War Hero Francis Marion's own band of fearless guerrillas (for whom the Confederate company was named), and (3), to honor the brave modern men of Marion County who are willing to carry out CS Gen. Stephen Dill Lee's "Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans" to "see that the true history of the South is transmitted to future generations." This Camp will cater to, donate time and resources to, and support the John Ford Home located south of Columbia in Sandy hook, MS. Of note, Pres. Andrew Jackson stayed there around December 10, 1814 on his way to the Battle of New Orleans. Also, on December 3, 1864, Gen. Davidson brought his troops through the area on his Raid and garrisoned the house and property. The Camp meets the 1st Thursday of every month at the Marion County Museum on 2nd Street, Columbia, Marion County, MS. Exact start time of meeting to be determined, but probably 6 or 7 PM right after the John Ford Home Meeting
