Camp #1353 Lt. Gen. Nathan B. Forrest

Hattiesburg, MS.
There are photos of the Camp's Events in this slideshow.

The Camp takes its name from Lt. General Nathan Bedford Forrest, often called the Wizard of the Saddle, one of the most celebrated and decorated Cavalry Commanders. Forrest is one of the war's most unusual figures. Less educated than many of his fellow officers, Forrest had already amassed a fortune as a planter & real estate investor before the war. He was one of the few officers in either army to enlist as a private and be promoted to general officer and division commander by the end of the war. Although Forrest lacked formal military education, he had a gift for strategy and tactics. His manuevers are still studied today. The Lt. Gen. Nathan B. Forrest Camp meets the last Tuesday of each month at the Garden Club next to Hattiesburg High School in Hattiesburg, MS.
